Whether you’re missing a single tooth or you’ve lost several teeth, you won’t want to delay in getting them replaced. If you’re missing teeth in Calgary, don’t despair. Today you have more options for replacement than ever before. Many patients are choosing to forgo conventional free-floating dentures in favour of dental implants.
Dental implants involve titanium alloy roots that are attached directly to the jawbone to anchor new porcelain replacements. If you are in good health, a dentist can evaluate the condition of your gums and jaw to confirm whether or not implants should be considered as a suitable option for you.
Depending on your situation, the implant process is as follows:
There are many reasons why people are choosing implants:
Combat the effects of gum disease with a consultation and treatment at Panorama Hills Dental Centre. Our team has the training to deal with the most severe periodontal conditions. If your gums have receded to the point where deep pockets have formed around your teeth, and plaque has accumulated at the point of attachment, you are advised to seek professional care immediately. Once tarter sets in, if left untreated, you will be in danger of losing your teeth as gum disease will eventually break down the supporting bone holding the tooth. If root planing, scaling or antibiotics doesn’t work, a surgical option will be your next best bet.
Whether you require crown lengthening or a laser gingivectomy, our Calgary clinic can help.
Laser Gingivectomy Process
A local anesthetic is used as we remove diseased tissue to eliminate the unwanted pockets and reshape the gum. The healing process can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks.
If proper care is taken following surgery, your gums will return to a pink and healthy state once again.
In certain instances, there may be too much gum tissue.
If you dislike your “gummy-looking” smile, or you require a filling or crown and lack the tooth surface to properly support the procedure, your dentist may have to remove excess gum tissue or bone. Crown lengthening is a common procedure that utilizes a local anesthetic. Stitches are required and patients may need to follow a softer diet in the days following.
